Manual Accrual Object Creation
Joule capability in which a user requests a manual accrual object in natural language, Joule proposes accrual details from AI and historical data, and, after the user reviews, adjusts and selects "Confirm and Create", Joule creates the accrual object and opens it in the Manage Manual Accruals app.
Recorded characteristics
- Function
- SAP documents that Joule enables users to automate the creation of manual accrual objects through Joule-powered natural language interaction and context-aware suggestions, covering business cases such as rental agreements and provisions for litigation. The user requests an accrual object for a company code and accrual object category; Joule proposes vendor options and details; the user may adjust total amount, period or cost split; Joule updates the proposal and shows a comparison with the previous suggestion; the user completes the process with "Confirm and Create".
- Data access
- SAP states that Joule uses AI and historical data to propose accrual details, including vendor suggestions based on historical data, and suggests Vendor, Company Code, Amount, Duration, General Ledger (GL) account and Cost Objects. The user supplies the accrual object category and company code in the request. The capability page lists the APIs API_MANUALACCRUALS, AUI_MANUALACCRS_MNG and UI_JOURNALENTRY_MANAGE and the semantic object-action ManualAccrualObject-manage. SAP does not define which historical records are read, and documents no access beyond manual accrual and related finance objects.
- Actions
- Can take actions
- External actions
- Unknown
- Human confirmation
- Required
- Permission basis
- User permissions
- Administrative control
- SAP documents distinct controls: the capability requires the business role SAP_BR_GL_ACCOUNTANT assigned to the user; the transactional-capability page requires associated business roles to be assigned and the corresponding services activated (per SAP Note 3523238); Joule itself must be activated and users assigned as described in "Activating Business AI and Assigning Users"; and the state-changing step is gated in the conversation by the user selecting "Confirm and Create". These are separate provisioning, role-assignment, service-activation and runtime-confirmation controls.
- Default state
- Not established
- Availability
- SAP's capability page lists this capability as supported from SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition release 2023 FPS03 and later. SAP states that Joule capabilities differ per release and directs readers to Release-Specific Capabilities and SAP Note 3523238. SAP does not document universal availability across all SAP products or environments.
- Licensing
- Requires Joule to be activated for the tenant and a supported SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition release; SAP publishes no separate commercial licensing terms for this individual capability.
- External model or provider
- Not established
- Limitations and uncertainty
- SAP does not publish which underlying AI model or provider serves this capability, so the model arrangement is not publicly established. SAP does not state whether the accrual creation call runs under the signed-in user's identity at the technical API layer beyond requiring the SAP_BR_GL_ACCOUNTANT business role; execution outside the SAP system boundary is neither documented nor excluded. SAP notes the Joule prompt language must match the system logon language to prevent processing discrepancies. Documented scope is limited to creation of manual accrual objects in the Manage Manual Accruals app.
